After an Elixir d’Amour inspired by Donizetti and a Rigoletto inspired by Verdi, we continue our season of collaborative opera for young people with Cenerentola, in a new adaptation of one of the most famous works in the Italian repertoire. Director Daniele Menghini has chosen to set the story of Don Magnifico and his three daughters in a hotel where dreams come true, and it is here, after being ill-treated by her three step-sisters, that Angelica will embrace her royal destiny. Looking beyond the plot of the tale by the brothers Grimm and the opera derived from it by Rossini, here we also have an exploration of social differences and benevolence. This goes to show that fairy tales can also truly engage with our own era.
