First part
Bach, Handel, Vivaldi Excerpts from vocal pieces by young singers and breakdancers participating in the program « Mozart in the 6T »
The Magnificat in D major is a piece which belongs, along with the Passions, to the catalogue of Bach's major vocal works. It was composed for five-voice choir and orchestra for the feast of the Visitation of Mary on 2 July 1733. It is in fact a rewrite of a first version, written ten years earlier in E-flat major for the Christmas service of 1723. It is one of the few musical pieces by the Leipzig Cantor based on a Latin text (most are composed using German texts), the other famous example being his Mass in B minor, also written for five voices. This evening will also be an opportunity for new encounters since Jean-Christophe Spinosi and the Matheus Ensemble have brought together young singers and breakdancers to "shake up" the conventions of the classical concert. An iconoclastic wind of youth and welcome chance encounters.
