Quatuor Ebène
Mathieu Herzog | viola
Victor Julien-Laferrière | cello
The Quatuor Ebène is in fine company for Strauss and Schubert.
Strauss Sextet for two violins, two violas and two cellos (Prelude to Capriccio)
Schubert String quintet for two cellos Op. posth. 163 D. 956
EIn addition to Mathieu Herzog, their former viola player who is now a conductor, they will be joined by Victor Julien-Laferrière. The Quatuor Ebène will therefore be able to tug at the heartstrings with Strauss, whose last opera opens with a sextet suffused with nostalgia. This will be followed by Schubert’s great Quintet in C, which despite its highly distinctive touches of chiaroscuro does not seem to hint at the imminent demise of its composer. A near sublime hour of music ranging from a swansong to a celebration of life.
