Beethoven  Sonata No. 14 Op. 27, Sonata No. 30 Op. 109
    Schubert  4 Impromptus Op. 90
Chopin  Mazurkas, Scherzo No. 1 Op. 20

Since winning first prize in the prestigious International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw in 2005, Polish pianist Rafał Blechacz has pursued a flawless career. He progresses with a rigour, seriousness and perfectionism which command respect – not least because he has taken a year out to complete a PhD thesis on the philosophy of music. Onstage, he has mastered the art of clarity in his playing: precise articulation, strong attack, sonority, and subtly varied dynamics. He has all the skills at his fingertips to showcase a stunning grasp of refinement, which includes a true poetics of sound. All this will be apparent tonight with Beethoven, Schumann and, of course, Chopin.
