After winning first prize in the International Tchaikovsky Competition in 2015, the Russian pianist has been showered with praise and plaudits for his concerts in France. This was the case with spine-tingling Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto No. 1 performed with the Orchestre National de France in 2020, his first recitals at La Roque-d’Anthéron, at the Philharmonie de Paris, and here last season for his first major recital. He is now back with a programme showcasing Chopin’s romanticism, and Tchaikovsky and the art of ballet. The very bold scoring for piano of Liszt’s Danse macabre will reveal another facet of his virtuosity.
