Corps de Ballet of the Ukrainian National Opera
The visit by the ballet and orchestra of the National Opera of Ukraine in December 2022 was one of the highlights of recent seasons at the Théâtre des Champs Elysées. Artists, teams at the Théâtre and audiences at every performance and on the closing night in particular, were deeply moved when the entire venue was upstanding for the Ukrainian national anthem. Since then, living and working conditions in Kyiv remain difficult for Ukrainians, but the company is standing firm and we are proud and delighted to offer them our support once again during the festive season. They will present The Snow Queen, adapted from the eponymous fairytale by Hans Christian Andersen, with scores by Grieg, Massenet, Offenbach, Johann Strauss, and Berlioz. Choreography is by Aniko Rekhviashvili, who took up the challenge in 2015 of telling the story of young Gerda and her battle with an evil frozen foe. Despite this theme, it will be an evening full of magic and enchantment.
