THE TREE, FRAGMENTS OF POETICS ON FIRE
Piece for 9 dancers (2021)
« We are not external to the universe; we are seeds developing in cycles and in rhythm, like the changing seasons which govern each creation ». This is how Carolyn Carlson defines her latest major work for her company. The Tree is a poetic meditation on humanity and nature on the brink of disaster. Following on from Water, Pneuma and Now, she is completing the cycle of works inspired by Gaston Bachelard. In The Tree, Carolyn Carlson’s dreamlike vision and the virtuosity of the dancers convey a powerful and dynamic expression of love for nature on the verge of collapse, in the hope it will be reborn like a phoenix rising from the ashes.
