Boccherini  String Quintet No. 4 G. 448 « Fandango »
Schubert  String quintet D. 956

Electrifying cellist Nicolas Altstaedt replaces Boccherini’s original guitar in a wild “Fandango”. The Belcea Quartet then reconnects with Schubert and the Quintet which it recorded in 2009 with Valentin Erben (Warner). Altstaedt played this with the Quatuor Ebène at the Menton Music Festival, in what the press described as the defining moment of the 2022 festival. In unison or in counterpoint with Antoine Lederlin, he will bolster Schubert’s ever-changing, but always affecting, lyricism. The Quintet is bathed in the sunlight of C major, dappled with a distinctive chiaroscuro.
