RACHMANINOFF IN THREE BEATS I
Rachmaninoff  Variations on a Theme of Chopin op. 22
8 Etudes-tableaux op. 33
Sonata No. 1 op. 28

Almost the complete works of Rachmaninov! This is the challenge that Nikolaï Lugansky, the keenest advocate of the composer and – according to the prestigious Gramophone magazine – “the most innovative and meteoric performer of all” has set for himself. British critics believe, moreover, that his recording of Sonata No. 1 (1908) for Erato could charm even the most recalcitrant listener. Prior to this apotheosis, the Russian pianist will begin with variations drawn from Prelude Opus 28 No. 20 by Chopin in 1902-1903, before returning to the first series of Etudes-Tableaux (1911) painted in the rustic setting of the family estate in Ivanovka.
