The complicity of a trio to shed light on Tchaikovsky and Shostakovich.
Tchaikovsky Trio for violin, cello and piano Op. 50 « In memory of a great artist »
Shostakovich Trio No. 2 for violin, cello and piano Op. 67
An enthusiastic trio to showcase their talent in Tchaikovsky's poignant Trio Op. 50 "In Memory of a Great Artist" and Shostakovich's Opus 67. Despite the undeniable beauty of the two trios on the line-up, a hint of sorrow will permeate the evening. With his dedication "In Memory of a Great Artist", Tchaikovsky, in his Opus 50, alludes to the pianist Nikolai Rubinstein, a great friend of the recently deceased composer. It is a page of unheard-of exigency, especially for the piano section, steeped throughout the score in a beautiful melancholy lyricism. Shostakovich's work is also about pain and mourning. Dating from 1944, it is dedicated to the memory of his friend Ivan Sollertinski, artistic director of the Leningrad Philharmonic Orchestra, and to the dead of the Dajdanek extermination camp in Poland, which was then recently discovered by the Russians. The work is traversed by a powerfully obsessive tension in the repetition of the themes, like a kind of long lamentation of pain.
