It was her first major role, but her Violetta exceeded all expectations as the young soprano got right under the skin of her character, both musically and dramatically. The Albanian-born Italian tenor, who was playing Alfredo for at least the hundredth time, remained as fresh as ever and his radiant singing conveyed all the bright youthfulness of the role. It was quite clear at the time that this couple would be back onstage performing love duets soon and this programme is structured around some of the most beautiful arias and duets by Mozart, Verdi, Donizetti, Gounod, Massenet and Puccini.
