Beethoven Leonore, Overture No. 3
Schumann Violin Concerto
Beethoven Symphony No. 5 Op. 67

Approximate running time
1st part: 45mn - Intermission: 20mn - 2nd part: 35mn

What’s new? Beethoven under the baton of Constantin Trinks, a brilliant young conductor in the enduring tradition of the Kapellmeister, who is much in demand today at major opera houses. On the programme are one of the three overtures to Leonore, the well-known prelude to Fidelio, and the famous Fifth Symphony, which we should never forget contains far more gems than those immortal and legendary opening eight notes. Carolin Widmann is also a product of the school of German rigour, and this internationally-renowned violinist is rediscovering an old acquaintance on this occasion: Schumann’s Violin Concerto, which she recorded as performer and conductor in 2016 with the Chamber Orchestra of Europe. It is one of her favourite works in the repertoire, which she says she loves for its « darkness, abrasive edge and constant tension, the despair of the second movement, but also the possibility of consolation. »
