Ravel Through his letters and writings, his portrait illuminated by musical extracts from Miroirs, Gaspard de la nuit, Le Tombeau de Couperin...

Ravel has always had a special place in Pierre-Laurent Aimard’s heart. The proof is that of all the concertos in the repertoire, it was the Basque composer’s Piano Concerto in G major which he tackled first. When the pianist recorded The Liszt Project, he included Jeux d’eaux by Ravel, whom he describes in the illustrated talk accompanying his recording of Gaspard de la nuit as “the master of rigour, clarity, and precision”. His performance of Miroirs was included in the collection of the complete works of the composer of the Tombeau de Couperin. Music-loving actor Mathieu Amalric will read from Ravel’s writings in order to plumb their depths.
